Marketing Gets Attention. Visibility Requires Courage

I talk a lot about visibility. And despite how many people try to treat visibility and marketing as if they are the same thing, I am absolutely clear that they are not.

Today, I want to talk about why that distinction matters so much. When I break it down to the most basic difference, it comes down to this:

What Visibility Actually Requires

Visibility simply means you can be seen. It requires you to be willing to let people see you. And, it asks you to be open to the risk of people seeing who you really are.

Which of course can feel much harder than it sounds when you don’t fully like who you are, trust yourself, or feel at home in your own skin.

And that doesn’t just apply to your business. It affects every aspect of your life, your relationships, how you move in the world, and even your relationship with yourself.

Marketing Amplifies Your Visibility

Marketing, on the other hand, is about tactics. It is about using a set of tools and strategies to bring attention to you, your work, and what you offer in your business or career.

It is about creating reach, building awareness, and helping the right people find you.

In that sense, marketing is a way of amplifying visibility. But it is not the same thing as visibility itself.

Why This Distinction Matters So Much

That distinction matters more than most people realize.

Because you’re not going to implement any strategy wholeheartedly if you’re afraid of being seed. It  doesn’t no matter how strong the  marketing strategy is. You’re not going to use it, if you are resisting being seen.

Instead, you hesitate. You may water things down. Or you might even avoid the parts that would actually help people understand who you are and what you do. You stay inconsistent. You may talk yourself out of trying at all.

And then, of course, you don’t get the results you were hoping for.

This Loop Catches So Many Women 

So you end up stuck in this painful loop.

You tell yourself you need to learn how to market better. Or you decide you just need more confidence. Or maybe you conclude that you hate marketing altogether.

And if you stay in that cycle long enough, it is very easy to start feeling like something is wrong with you. Like you are broken. Like somehow this is all your fault.

The Real Issue Is Often Not Marketing

But the truth is, nothing is wrong with you.

Very often, you are simply operating from old conditioning. You are trying to override patterns you may not even recognize are there.

And that is exactly what keeps so many women stuck. They assume they have a marketing problem, when what they really have is a visibility problem.

That is why I am so adamant about making the distinction. And why I care so deeply about helping women understand that visibility is not just a marketing issue. It is about finding the courage to be seen.

Because until you are more comfortable being visible, until you can let people see the real you without feeling like you have to be perfect first or act like someone else, it is going to be very hard to successfully implement even the simplest marketing strategy in a way that produces real results.

A Real-World Example From My Own Business

Let me give you a real-world example.

I currently have a YouTube channel. At the moment, I have 165 public videos on that channel and 63 subscribers. It took me a long time to get there.

And I can tell you it was not because I didn’t care. Or because I was lazy. And definitely not because I didn’t have anything to say.

It took me time because visibility is built in stages.

Before I could focus on growing the channel strategically, I had to get more comfortable being seen on video in a public space.

Now I am.

And because of that, you will notice my channel beginning to change as I work to implement a more intentional marketing strategy to increase that visibility.

I can do that now because I have done enough of the inner work to feel more comfortable being seen on a highly public YouTube channel. It wasn’t something I could do before.

Before that, my work was to take smaller visibility steps. To practice simply allowing myself to be seen in that kind of space.

That mattered. It was not wasted effort. It was part of the process.

What Happens When Marketing and Visibility Finally Work Together

Now let me contrast that with someone I deeply respect.

I consider  Cindy Bidar, a mentor. She recently started a new YouTube channel. It is not her first one.

But unlike that earlier channel, she approached this one with a very strong marketing strategy.

She has only 10 videos on the new channel and already has more than four thousand subscribers.

That is a good marketing strategy at work. But even there, my point still stands.

She could only implement that strategy because she has already found the courage to be seen.

She shows up with clarity, authenticity, and ease on her YouTube channel, in her blog posts, in her emails, and wherever else she chooses to show up.

Not because she is perfect. Not because she never gets nervous.

But because she has done the inner work required to feel more comfortable in her own skin.

And that matters.
